EVANSTON, Ill. - Freshmen
Ross Guignon and
Tim Kopinski were each victorious in their opening-round singles matches at the Wildcat Invitational on Friday. The Illini newcomers also teamed up to capture two doubles wins on day one of the three-day tournament, hosted by Northwestern.
Guignon cruised to a 6-4, 6-3 round-one victory over Western Michigan's Nadin Indre, while classmate Kopinski was even more efficient, taking down Northern Illinois' Roman Turtugin, 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles play, the Illini tandem posted victories over Toledo duo Leo Sarria and Tomas Stillman and DePaul pair George Chanturia and Matija Palinic.
Guignon and Kopinski will return to action tomorrow morning for round two of singles play and the final doubles rounds in Evanston, Ill.
