After No. 3 Wisconsin won five consecutive matches to take a 19-15 lead over No. 15 Illinois, Daryl Thomas wrestled with great purpose and came away with a 25-9 technical fall that gave the Illini a 19-19 tie at the UW Field House on Sunday. It was a four-point technical fall because Thomas was never able to earn near-fall points in the bout, but it was enough to tie the match between a pair of shorthanded Big Ten squads.
