Greensboro, N.C. - Illinois senior Scott Langley fell in the second round of the U.S. Amateur Public Links Thursday morning. Chris Williams, a sophomore at the University of Washington, defeated Langley in 20 holes to advance to the Round of 16 at the Bryan Park Golf & Conference Center.

Langley, the NCAA champion, trailed much of the middle holes until back-to-back birdies on 13 and 14 gave him a one-hole advantage. Williams birdied 15 to get back to all square before bogeying 16 to again push Langley to the lead. A Williams birdie on 17 made it all square and with both men paring 18, it went to extra holes.

Langley travels to Columbus, Ohio, next week to participate in the Nationwide Children's Hospital Invitational. The Tournament at the Scarlet Course provides automatic exemption to the 11 NCAA Division I All-Americans.

"This has been a great experience competing in so many quality events," Langley said. "This is what I want to do, so this has given me a taste of what that will be like."

• Langley was one of 119 NCAA Division I players to be named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar. To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
