Illinois women's basketball head coach Jolette Law and assistant coach Lisa Cermignano were a featured as keynote speakers at the inaugural Assistant Coaches Professional Development Symposium held on May 1 and 2 in Atlanta.
More than 100 coaches from universities and colleges across the nation were inspired, motivated and enthused by some of the best colleagues in the business during the event.
Joining Law and Cermignano as speakers at the two-day affair were Beth Bass, CEO of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), Karen Aston (UNC Charlotte), Al Brown (Duke University), Kelly Bond (Texas A& M), Lisa Boyer (University of South Carolina) Jackie Smith Carson (Furman University), Tim Eatman, (University of Arkansas), Bobbie Kelsey (Stanford University), Carlene Mitchell (Rutgers University), Bob Starkey (Louisiana State University) and Coquese Washington (Penn State University).
Law has spent three seasons on the sidelines at Illinois, while Cermignano recently completed her first season with the Orange and Blue.
Felicia Hall Allen - of Felicia Hall Allen Sports Management - was director of the event. Hall Allen represents college coaches in more than a dozen NCAA Division I Conferences. She earned her both her undergraduate degree and a Juris Doctorate from The University of Iowa, playing collegiate basketball for Hall of Famer C. Vivian Stringer.
"The star studded line-up of speakers really lived up to their billing as the best in the business and left the attendees wanting more," said Hall Allen.
The Assistant Basketball Coaches Symposium began as a thought of Felicia and her husband, Johnny Allen and developed into an exciting, informative, thought-provoking career building and professional development weekend. The schedule of events also included a Friday evening practice session with the WNBA Atlanta Dream.
"Our intent for the Symposium was to empower Assistant Coaches to Lead from Where They Are by allowing them to gain new knowledge or brush up on previously learned skills that would enhance their contributions to building championship-level teams," said Mr. Allen, the CEO of the Allen Leadership Group and a Senior Consultant for the FHA Sports Management Group.
