ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Second-ranked and top-seeded John Dergo dominated former national champion Mike Pucillo (Ohio State) by a 13-6 score in their semifinal bout, earning Dergo a spot in the 184-pound title match against Iowa's 10th-ranked and third-seeded Phil Keddy. Along with Dergo, 174-pounder Jordan Blanton and 197-pounder Patrick Bond also qualified for the NCAA Championships. John Deneen (125), Clint Arlis (157) and Conrad Polz (165) all will wrestle for seventh place during Sunday's final session. Illinois stands in ninth place after session two.

"Like most days, there was some good and some bad things," Illinois head coach Jim Heffernan said. "But John is right on track and looked great today. Jordan did some good things, too, and has a shot to place pretty high. For the most part, we wrestled with some good energy and we wrestled better than we have in the last month."

Deneen started off the consolation round for the Illini with a 2-0 win over Wisconsin's eighth-seeded Drew Hammen. Deneen scored a takedown in the first period and rode out Hammen, but Hammen returned the favor in the second period when Deneen started down. The pair started neutral in the third and Hammen had a couple of good scoring opportunities but Deneen held him off for the win.

But the Illini hit a bad string as Daryl Thomas dropped a 13-4 major decision to eighth-seeded Akif Eren (Purdue), ending his tournament run, and Eric Terrazas had his tournament finished by a 3-2 decision at the hands of eighth-seeded Nick Bertucci (Purdue), who scored the winning takedown with five seconds left.

Clint Arlis earned a medical forfeit victory over Minnesota's Dustin Schlatter and Conrad Polz stayed alive with an 8-3 win over Purdue's Jason Martin. Patrick Bond finished off a solid team effort in the first consolation round with an 8-3 win of his own over Penn State's Clay Steadman to advance to the consolation quarterfinals.

Deneen was pinned by Ohio State's sixth-seeded Nikko Triggas in 2:19 in the 125-pound consolation quarterfinals, pushing him into the seventh-place match. Arlis fought hard against sixth-seeded David Johnson but couldn't get closer than the 12-9 final margin also falling into the seventh-place bout, and Polz will wrestle for seventh place on Sunday after a 5-2 loss to Indiana's 12th-ranked and fifth-seeded Paul Young.

Blanton dropped a 6-0 match to top-seeded Jay Borschel (Iowa) and will face second-seeded and fifth-ranked Luke Manuel (Purdue) in the consolation semifinals. But Blanton already has qualified for the NCAA Championships, as he can finish no worse than sixth and the top six place-winners will go to Omaha.

Dergo dominated Ohio State's fourth-seeded and 11th-ranked Mike Pucillo from the first whistle, earning a 13-6 decision and punching his ticket to the championship bout at 184 pounds. He'll face Iowa's Phil Keddy, who is seeded third and ranked No. 10.

Bond finished Illinois' day with a resounding 4-0 win over Ohio State's Cody Magrum at 197 to punch his ticket to Omaha and will face third-seeded and eighth-ranked Anthony Biondo (Michigan) in the consolation semifinals, with the winner wrestling for third place and the loser wrestling for fifth.

The final session of the 2010 Big Ten Championships begins at 11 a.m. CT with consolation semifinals and seventh-place matches. First-, third- and fifth-place matches will begin at 1:06 p.m. CT and will be aired live on the Big Ten Network.
