CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Top Drawer Soccer awarded Illinois women's soccer freshman midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo a place on the website's All-Rookie Second Team in recognition of the contributions DiBernardo made to the Illinois offense in her first season with the program. DiBernardo finished with 11 goals and five assists to total 27 points in 19 games played.
DiBernardo already earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors to go with All-Big Ten First Team and All-Freshman Team recognition. During the season, the Naperville, Ill., native also nabbed two Offensive Player of the Week awards from the conference to go with being named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on three occasions.
DiBernardo tallied her first collegiate goal and assist at Loyola-Chicago during the Illini's season-opening victory before notching consecutive one-goal games against Wright State and Ball State. The Waubonsie Valley High School graduate earned her first multi-goal game at Cincinnati, providing the game-winning goal, and tallied a record-breaking four tallies against Purdue to set the program record for goals in a single game. After notching one-goal games at #17 Ohio State and Michigan State, DiBernardo ended the regular season as the conference leader in goals, points, goals per game and points per game.
