PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - After a long delay due to rain, play continued Wednesday in the qualifying rounds of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships. In the second round of qualifying doubles, Illini junior Chelcie Abajian and sophomore Breanne Smutko battled hard but fell 8-3 to sixth-seeded and preseason No. 28 Emily Fraser and Hana Tomljanovic of Virginia. With inclement weather delaying much of play for the day, the qualifying doubles consolation bracket was canceled.

"Today was a tough match for Chelcie and Bre," assistant coach Georgia Rose said. "They found it difficult to gain momentum and attack Virginia's weaknesses. This was another good learning experience and will help us down the road."

The Illini will be back in action in two weeks at the ITA Midwest Regionals, Oct. 21-26 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
