University of Illinois men's golf has moved up five places in the latest Golf World/NIKE Coaches poll. The Illini are now No. 7 in the rankings after starting the year at No. 12.
The Fighting Illini are coming off a seventh-place finish at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational in a field that included seven of the top 12 preseason teams. Oklahoma State, who finished second at Olympia Fields, remains number one with 14 first-place votes followed by Washington, Stanford, Alabama and Arizona State, who won the tournament at Olympia Fields.
Tennessee checks in at No. 6 followed by Illinois, Georgia Tech, USC and Florida. Of the top 10 teams, Oklahoma State, Stanford, Arizona State, Illinois, USC and Florida all competed this weekend at Olympia Fields as did Florida State (14), Georgia (15), Texas (22) and Augusta State (25).
Illinois returns to action Oct. 4-5 at the Windon Memorial.
