Illinois infielder Mike Giller (Chicago, Ill.) was named to the Northwoods League postseason all-star team Monday night after a stellar summer with the Waterloo Bucks. Giller hit .335 and led the NWL with 88 hits while splitting time between shortstop and first base.
He ranked third in the NWL in average and sixth in the league with 40 RBIs. Giller finished the summer with four home runs, 12 doubles, 14-17 stolen bases, 22 walks and 20 strikeouts in 263 at bats
Giller was a mainstay in the Bucks' lineup, leading Waterloo in games played (67), at bats (263), doubles (12), slugging percentage (.426) and on-base percentage (.388). He also broke the Bucks' career games played record with 186 and finished in the top 10 of Waterloo's career at bats and hits lists.
Giller was one of six Big Ten players named to the postseason all-star team, joining Zach Robertson, Kurtis Muller and Ryan Durant from Iowa, Minnesota's Michael Kvasnicka and Michigan State's Jonathan Roof.
