Zymkowitz Recognized in Sports Illustrated

April 10, 2009

URBANA, Ill. - Second baseman Danielle Zymkowitz earned a spot in Sports Illustrated's Faces in the Crowd section of the April 13 issue. Zymkowitz is the second Illini to receive the recognition, along with former shortstop Angelena Mexicano who appeared in an issue in September 2008.

Zymkowitz has been a stronghold of the Illini offense this season. As the table-setter for the Orange and Blue, the West Hills, Calif., native leads the team with a .445 average and has consistently ranked at the top of the Big Ten in hits and runs. Twice this season, Zymkowitz earned conference weekly honors to recognize her performances and two weeks ago she became the first Illini in program history to earn USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week accolades.

Zymkowitz and the Illini look to continue their four-game winning streak this weekend with a pair of games at Ohio State. The two teams square off on Saturday and Sunday, with a 1 p.m. (CT) first pitch on each day.
