Scott Langley named Big Ten Golfer of the Week

March 4, 2009

Park Ridge, Ill. - Illinois sophomore Scott Langley has been named Big Ten Men's Golfer of the Week. Langley piloted the Fighting Illini to an 8-1 Tinervin Cup win over Illinois State this past weekend, marking their sixth-straight triumph against the Redbirds. In the morning round, Langley teamed up with junior Matt Hoffman to claim victory over ISU's Jeff Kellen and Joe Emerich 3 & 1 in the closest match of the day. In the one-on-one afternoon session, the sophomore fired off an-event low score of 68, defeating Kellen in the head-to-head.

This is Langley's second Big Ten weekly honor of his career. He earned the distinction on Feb. 27, 2008 after winning the Argonaut Invitational. The 2008 Big Ten Freshman of the Year ranks 14th nationally in the Golfweek computer rankings. He holds two tournament titles to his collegiate resume - the 2007-08 Argonaut and the 2008-09 D.A. Weibring Invitational.

Illinois returns to action March 8-9 at the General Jim Hackler Invitational.
