MALIBU, Calif. - The Illini duo of junior Megan Fudge and sophomore Leigh Finnegan fell in the second round of the 2008 Riviera/ ITA All-American Championships pre-qualifying doubles draw hosted by Pepperdine University.

Fudge and Finnegan gave it all they had in a morning matchup against Southern California's Maria Sanchez and Alison Ramos. However, the Illini tandem came up short, falling 8-5 to the USC duo.

"I felt for Meg and Leigh today because they played their hearts out and played well, but came up short against an extremely talented USC team," Illinois head coach Michelle Dasso said. "If today's performance is any indication of how they will play together for the rest of the year they are going to have a very successful season."

The Illinois women's tennis team now prepares for the Mizzou Invitational in Columbia, Mo., Oct. 3-5. For complete coverage of Illinois' results stay tuned to fightingillini.com.
