Medinah, Ill. -
Illinois golf coach Mike Small shot a 67 for the second straight day to take a four-shot lead after 36 holes of the Nadler Golf 86th Illinois PGA Championship at Medinah Country Club.
Small used an eagle on the 465-yard par five 10th to begin a 32 on the back nine of the 6,714-yard par 71 course. His day also included five birdies. He entered play Tuesday in second just one stroke off the lead, but moved to eight-under par, four-strokes ahead of first-round leader Chris Happ, the club professional at Winnetka Golf Club.
Just four players are under par through 36 of the 54-hole event. The third round and final round will be contested Wednesday. Small is going for his sixth title in a row and seventh in eight years.
"This is the last tournament I'm going to play in until probably November," Small said. "I hope to go out tomorrow and give a good effort and end the summer on a strong note, playing solid golf."
