WIMBLEDON, England - Former Illini Kevin Anderson and Rajeev Ram have both advanced in doubles play at the All England Club this week.
Anderson, along with partner Robert Lindstedt of Sweden, defeated the duo of Michael Kohlmann(GER) and Jean-Claude Scherrer (SUI), 7-6 (4), 6-4, 6-2, in the second round on June 27, to advance in the gentlemen's doubles draw. The tandem of Anderson and Lindstedt will face the No. 12-seeded duo of Marcelo Melo (BRA) and Andre Sa (BRA) in the third round.
In a first round showdown, between two former Illini, Rajeev Ram and Amer Delic, it was Ram and partner Bobby Reynolds who came out on top with a 6-2, 7-6 (4), 6-3 victory over Delic and partner Brendan Evans on June 26. Ram and Reynolds will face the No. 2-seeded duo of Daniel Nestor (CAN) and Nenad Zimonjic (SRB) in the second round.
In other Illini news, former Illini G.D. Jones and Ryler DeHeart have both advanced to the quarterfinals at the USA F14 Futures event in Shingle Springs, Calif. Jones will face Marinko Matosevic (AUS), while DeHeart, the No. 2 seed, will take on Adriano Biasella (ITA).
