Diller Begins Career In The Pros

May 28, 2008

Former Illini third baseman Shanna Diller has signed a free agent contract to play in the National Pro Fastpitch as announced by the Rockford Thunder. Diller is among three former Illini representing the softball program at the professional level this season, along with former shortstop Angelena Mexicano and first baseman Jenna Hall.

"I am very thankful to have the opportunity to continue my career with a great organization," Diller said. "It's extremely exciting to be able play just a couple of hours from my hometown."

Diller finished her collegiate career as one of the most prolific Illini in history, ranking in the top 10 among several categories. The Bloomington, Ill., native is second all-time with 37 home runs, 163 runs scored, 158 RBIs and 364 total bases, while ranking fourth in the record book with a .314 batting average and .537 slugging percentage. Diller was named first-team All-Big Ten and Academic All-District at the conclusion of the 2008 season.

"Shanna is a player we've had our eye on since the fall college season," Rockford General Manager Aaron Moore said. "She provides us with another solid bat and is versatile in that she can play both of the corner infield positions. We look for her to contribute to the team right away this season."

The Thunder kick off their season on Thursday, May 29 at 6:35 p.m. CT at SportsCore One in Rockford.
