Junior catcher Lana Armstrong garnered second-team NFCA All-Great Lakes Region honors, as announced Wednesday by the organization. It is the first postseason honor of Armstrong's career and marks the sixth time in the last seven years Illinois has had at least one all-region representative.
Armstrong finished the 2008 season batting .309 and ranked second on the team with 54 RBIs. She also knocked a school-record 19 doubles and led the Illini with a .990 fielding percentage. The Rowlett, Texas, native belted eight home runs on the season and was third on the team with a .555 slugging percentage.
Armstrong is now eligible for the NFCA All-American team, which will be announced at the end of the month.
