Elmhurst, Ill. -
Illinois junior guard Lori Bjork has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 5 Women's Basketball Team.
District Five includes Division I universities in Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota and the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Manitoba. In order to be considered, athletes must be in their second year academically at the school, have a minimum 3.20 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale and be a starter or regular contributor. College Sports Information Director's of America (CoSIDA) members serving schools in each district vote on the winners. District winners then advance to Academic All-America consideration.
Bjork is a repeat winner of the award and was named third team Academic All-American in 2007. She has 49 three-pointers this season, giving her 186 for her career, just eight shy of Krista Reinking's Illinois career record mark of 194 set in from 1995-98. Last season, Bjork set the Illini's single-season mark with 84 triples on the year. She also needs just 37 points to reach the 1,000-point mark for her career and has hit 18 three-pointers in her last six games. Bjork was named second team All-Big Ten last year after leading the conference and ranking 14th in the nation in three-pointers per game (2.71) and was a pre-season all-Big Ten selection this season.
