Challenge at Wolfdancer Final Results
AUSTIN, Texas - The Challenge at Wolfdancer concluded on Monday as the remaining holes of round two and a final third round were completed at the par-72 6,141-yard Wolfdancer Golf Club. Illinois (968) carded a second round 319 followed by a one stroke improvement, 318, in the final round to finish the event in 12th place.
Freshman Samantha Sloan (235) paced the Illini with back-to-back rounds of 77 to wrap up the tournament, placing her in a tie for 24th. Senior Nancy Featherstone (239) fired a 76 in the second round followed by a final round 79, tying her for 35th. Freshman Hailey Koschmann (246) finished tied for 48th after rounds of 85 and 78 on Monday. Sophomore Raquel Hopton (255) posted rounds of 81 and 91, respectively, to close the tournament in 80th. Freshman Kaitlyn Wampler (265) turned in scores of 87 and 84 on Monday to finish in 86th place.
A mere three strokes separated the top-five teams of the 16-team field. Colorado (928) edged two Texas teams by a single stroke to take home the team title. Texas Tech and host Texas State finished tied for second with tournament totals of 929, while Idaho and the College of Charleston tied for fourth with 54-hole totals of 931.
Texas Tech's Megan Dowdy (221) and Iowa State's Victoria Stefansen (221) shot identical scores in all three rounds (76-73-72) and tied for first place.
Up Next: Illinois returns to action in February for the spring season after a long winter layoff. The Illini will return to Texas to kick off the spring season at the Islander Spring Classic held in Corpus Christi on Feb. 23-24.
