Oct. 4, 2008

Recap |  Final Stats |  AP Photo Gallery

  1. Illinois scored 45 points against Michigan today, the most the Illini have put up against the Wolverines in school history. It is also the most points against Michigan in the Big House since 1991 when Florida State scored 51. It is the most points scored by a Big Ten opponent at Michigan Stadium since Ohio State won 50-20 in 1961.

  2. Illinois posted its first win over Michigan today since 1999 when the Illini won 35-29 over the Wolverines. It is also the first win at Michigan Stadium since that same game.

  3. Illinois 45 points marks the third time the Illini have scored over 40 points this season after scoring 42 against Missouri and 47 against Eastern Illinois.

  4. Illinois quarterback Juice Williams passed for over 300 yards and rushed for over 100, marking the first time for the accomplishment in school history. Juice's total offense of 431 yards sets Michigan Stadium record (former records was 403 by Illinois' Tony Eason in 1981) and ties with Northwestern's Sandy Schwab (1982) for most yards ever against the Wolverines.

  5. Williams compiled 310 passing yards, his fifth game over 200-yards and his second over 300. He threw three passes over 40 yards against the Wolverines today - a 46-yarder to Arrelious Benn, 57-yard touchdown to Daniel Dufrene and career-long 77-yard touchdown to Jeff Cumberland. Williams averaged 23.8 yards per completion on the day.

  6. Williams rushed for over 100 yards for the sixth time in his career and second time this season. With 121 yards today, he also improves to 16th on the Illinois al-time rushing list with 1,738 yards.

  7. Juice Williams connected with Jeff Cumberland for a 77-yard touchdown pass. It is the longest play from scrimmage this season for the Illini and the longest Illinois reception since 1985, when Cap Boso caught an 83-yarder from Jack Trudeau. It is also the first catch for Cumberland this season and his fifth career touchdown.

  8. Arrelious Benn recorded his second straight 100-yard receiving game, catching six passes for career-high 122 yards. It is the first time an Illinois player has put together back-to-back 100-yard receiving games since Kendrick Jones in 2004 against Florida A&M on Sept. 4 and UCLA on Sept. 11. Benn has also caught a pass in each of his 18 career games.

  9. Defensive end Derek Walker blocked Michigan's first field goal attempt. It is Illinois' first blocked field since 2005 when Chris Norwell blocked one against California on Sept. 17.

  10. Williams scored his third and fourth rushing touchdown of the season on a six-yard run in the second quarter and two-yard run in the fourth. He also threw two touchdown passes against the Wolverines. He has now contributed on 15 of Illinois' 22 touchdowns this season (4 rushing, 11 passing).

  11. Daniel Dufrene caught his second touchdown pass of the season on a 57-yard reception from Williams.

  12. Brit Miller had back-to-back quarterback sacks in the third quarter, giving him a new career-high for sacks in a game. He also posted a career-high in tackles for loss with four. Miller also forced his third fumble of the season.

  13. Donsay Hardeman posted a career-high eight tackles, including a career-best eight solo tackles.

  14. Vontae Davis had two tackles for loss, marking a career best for him. His previous high was 1.5 TFL vs. Louisiana Lafayette earlier this year.

  15. Josh Brent recovered a Michigan fumble in the third quarter, the first of his career. He is the sixth different Illinois player this year to recover a fumble.

  16. Illinois had 501 yards in total offense, topping the 500-yard mark for the third time (Missouri and Eastern Illinois).
