EAST LANSING, MICH.
- Freshman Chelcie Abajian's impressive run at the 2008 Wilson / ITA Midwest Regional Championships came to an end on Monday, as the Illini fell to No. 1-seeded Samantha Murray of Northwestern 6-2, 6-3, in the quarterfinals at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility in East Lansing.

"Chelcie lost to a tough opponent this morning to end her run at Regionals, but gained a lot of confidence along the way," Illinois head coach Michelle Dasso said. "The hard work and dedication to fitness that she has put in since the day she arrived on campus paid off and this will only motivate her to keep up the intensity."

Abajian ended the Regional Championships with a 6-1 mark, improving her record to 9-5 on the season. Abajian's run included an upset of the No. 5-8 seed Tania Mahtani of Michigan in the Round of 16 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Abajian and the Illinois women's tennis team wrap up the fall season when they host the Midwest Blast at the Atkins Tennis Center, Nov. 7-9.
