COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Illinois men's tennis wrapped up a solid weekend of competition at the 2008 Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championships hosted by Ohio State University. Junior Billy Heiser's deep run at the championships came to an end on Sunday, as the No. 7-seeded Heiser fell to top-seeded Justin Kronauge of Ohio State 6-4, 6-2 at the Varsity Tennis Center in Columbus.
Heiser ended the Regional Championships with a 3-1 mark, including a come from behind victory over No. 15-seeded Balazs Novak of Ohio State in the third round of singles action earlier today.
In doubles as the No. 3 seed, Heiser and freshman Ruan Roelofse advanced to the quarterfinals in the doubles main draw. The duo battled hard but could not over the Minnesota tandem of Tobias Wernet and Michael Sicora, falling 9-8. After going 3-1 at the Regional Championships, the duo improved their fall season record to 5-2 overall.
The Illini are back in action next weekend at the Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala., Oct. 24-26.
