Illinois finds itself with a three-shot lead heading into Monday's final round of the D.A. Weibring Invitational. With rounds of 276 and 279 in the opening two rounds Sunday at the 6,681-yard par 70 course in Normal, Ill., Illinois (-5) leads host Illinois State (-2) by three strokes. Illinois is looking for its second straight D.A. Weibring Championship and its third straight tournament title overall.
Sophomore Scott Langley shot a career-best 64 in the first round and followed that with a 67 and sits atop the leaderboard at -9. Illinois State's Kyle Bragg and Ben Murphy are second and third at -7 and -3 respectively. Illini junior Matt Hoffman, fresh off a seventh-place finish at the Windon,, is looking for his second straight top 10. After rounds of 67 and 71, Hoffman is fourth at -2.
Sophomore Chris DeForest, the tournament's defending individual medalist, is tied for 16th at +3 after rounds of 71 and 72, while junior Zach Barlow (70-74) and freshman Luke Guthrie (71-73) are tied for 18th at +4.
Much like last week, the first two teams have broken away from the pack. Western Illinois is third at +15, some 20 strokes off the lead followed by SIU-Edwardsville and Loyola University at +16.
The final round will begin at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
