Illinois dropped to 2-1 on its Canadian exhibition tour, falling to Concordia University today by the score of 86-82 in front of a sell-out crowd in Montreal.
Shaun Pruitt led the Illini in scoring for the second straight game, scoring 16 points and collecting game highs of eight rebounds and three steals. Chester Frazier also reached double figures with 11 points while dishing out a team-high six assists. Trent Meacham and Steve Holdren scored nine apiece, each hitting a trio of 3-pointers.
The Illini shot 47.7 percent (31-65) from the field, but made just 11 of 23 free throws. Concordia, meanwhile, shot over 57 percent (28-49) and connected on 23 of 30 from the foul line. Illinois outrebounded the Stingers 32-20 and had a commanding 16-3 advantage on the offensive glass.
The Illini started out strong, opening up an early 21-10 lead. Concordia then went on a 16-4 run to take a 26-25 lead midway through the second quarter and led by one at halftime, 40-39.
The Stingers scored the first six points after intermission on a pair of 3-pointers by Andre Johnny and widened the lead to 53-41. Illinois responded with a 10-2 run of its own to make it 55-51 with 3:57 left in the third. Pruitt and Meacham accounted for all 10 points during the run with Pruitt scoring on a turnaround, Meacham hitting back-to-back 3-pointers, and Pruitt finishing it off with a breakaway dunk.
Concordia led 62-55 after three quarters. The Stingers rattled off 10 unanswered points midway through the fourth for its biggest lead, 78-60. The Illini went on a furious rally at the end, outscoring the hosts 22-8 over the game's final five minutes, but ran out of time before completing the comeback.
NOTES:
• Today's game was again played under FIBA International rules.
• Foul trouble limited Demetri McCamey to just 16 minutes and Pruitt to 23. Both players fouled out in the fourth quarter.
• Illinois takes on McGill University on Monday at 11 a.m. Central Time. The Illini will fly home after the game and are scheduled to arrive in Champaign around 7 p.m.
• Through three games...
* Pruitt leads the Illini with 46 points (15.3 ppg) and 23 rebounds (7.7 rpg) and is shooting 64.7 percent from the field (22-34)

PLAY OF THE GAME:
• With four minutes left in the third quarter, Shaun Pruitt stole the ball and found Chester Frazier, who led the fast break to perfection, streaking down the court and then dropping an over-the-shoulder pass to a trailing Pruitt, who finished it off with a backboard rattling two-handed slam.
THOUGHTS FROM COACH WEBER:
On today's game...
"When we decided to take this trip, we knew we had to get the older guys reestablished and the young guys some playing time. These teams we're playing are very well coached and have older guys that know how to play. It's been a good learning experience for our team. Obviously we don't want to lose, but this will help us. We were playing our third game in 41 hours, which was a factor, but this reinforces the lesson that we have to be ready to play every game and play with energy every time we step out on that floor.
"We started off well, jumping out to a 21-10 lead. We did not make free throws, and that really hurt us in the first half and allowed them to get back in it. We also had foul trouble; some of it is the way the games are being called compared to what we're used to, and some of it we brought upon ourselves. We continued to rotate groups, and we let them get hot and once they got going it just kind of snowballed. Their two guards played very well, we just could not stop them. They made some big buckets, some tough shots. They did some ball screen and action things that we haven't seen yet, and our new guys were unsure of how to guard. The part I was disappointed with was when they went on a run in the second half and got the lead to seven or eight points, I thought we panicked and took bad shots. That's where we have to make some strides and not try to win the game in one play. We'll have some game experience and game tape to help our guys with that when we get back. It is all going to help us in the long run."
On the match-ups...
"The teams we're playing don't have much size, so they're going with small line ups where everyone can handle and shoot. We want to share the minutes so that everybody we've brought on this trip gets experience, but it becomes difficult for our bigs because they're facing guys much smaller and quicker than what they're used to going up against. We dominated the boards because of our size, especially offensively, but we struggled guarding them on the perimeter. But we're sticking with the plan to spread out the minutes because that's why we came up here, to get them all as much experience as possible."
