Chat Wednesday With Senior Receiver/Holder Frank Lenti

 Frank Lenti
Frank Lenti was in the chat room Wednesday afternoon. Here's how things went...
Moderator: Welcome to the weekly chat session here on CoachRonZook.com. Frank is here and ready to answer your questions...

Matt Willard (Ohio): I just want to complement on the major improvement that I saw in all the WR's last Saturday. Thanks for all the hard work you all put in to improving

Shet (Kuwait): Since the game winning field goal at Michigan State last year, do you have more women asking you out on dates?
Frank Lenti: Unfortunately not, Uncle Shet, Baby. Maybe something will come along this year.

Chicago: Frank, what is the main difference (if any) between this year's team and the last two season's under Coach Zook?
Frank Lenti: The last two seasons prepared us to believe that we are a good team and that we can beat any team we face. Before, we came into games HOPING to win; this year we're going into games EXPECTING to win.

South Holland: QB's that win awards usually give their offensive linemen lavish gifts. If Jason Reda breaks all the kicking records, what does he have in store for you and Kyle?
Frank Lenti: I don't know, but it had better be something good, because if it's not, there will probably be some bobbled snaps. Kenny (Kyle) will get a little more upset about that than I will.

Hector, Lisle: What was it like to find out you earned a scholarship last year?
Frank Lenti: It was a sense of excitement and relief. It was great to start having school paid for, but it was more about being regarded by the coaches as a scholarship player. It was also nice to know that I earned it by what I've done in college, not just in high school.

Courtney (Ames, Iowa): Hi Frank, I understand you interned in Illinois' Sports Info office this summer. Do you think you'd want to go into PR/journalism now? and who's your favorite SID? (Mine's Cassie). Thanks! Courtney
Frank Lenti: Do you want my honest answer, or the smart answer? It would have to be Cassie Arner, of course. I would like to go into sports video production as a career, and it's certainly related to Sports Information.

Kyle (Elgin): Frank, help me out here. I have been wondering for so long why we don't just air the ball out more often. We saw the play with K-Hud and how that turned out. So why not throw the deep ball more often?
Frank Lenti: The past couple of years we haven't been consistent with completing the long passes in practice and in games. This summer and during camp, that was one of our main things to work on. Hopefully that will continue to pay off like it did last Saturday.

South Holland: What has been your favorite away stadium to play at?
Frank Lenti: I'd have to say my favorite road traip has been to Cal. It's a great area to play a football game in, and probably the best hotel we've ever stayed at. Ohio State is also a great venue. To quiet a crowd of more than 100,000 fans when you make a good play is a great feeling.

James (IL transplant to South Bend): Frank, I had the privilege of hearing your father speak a few years back and he was outstanding. What was it like growing up with a great football coach as your dad, and what if any traits do/did you see in Coach Zook, and/or Coach Turner that resemble your dad's philosophy? Also, as an avid Illini fan, I would like to thank you for all of your hard work at Illinois! You have been a great part of the program! We wish you all the best and good luck this year!
Frank Lenti: I just learned from my dad the importance of being a good person, a good student, then a good athlete. That's one of the main things that I've carried throughout my life. Obviously, Coaches Zook and Turner both stress the importance of character and representing your program well.

AC (Fairfax, VA): How are the team's spirits after Saturday's dramatic comeback effort fell a bit short? The Illini nation is very proud of the team's effort!
Frank Lenti: For starters, we found out that if something should happen to Juice, Eddie can come in and we won't miss a beat. We expect to win every game, so we're not looking at it as a a moral victory. That one game (against Missouri) wasn't our whole season; we have 11 more to go. We'll try to get things rolling this week against Western Illinois.

Abe (Charleston): How did you get started holding?
Frank Lenti: Frank Lenti: In the eighth grade, we needed someone to do it, so I figured I'd give it a shot. In high school, I decided to do it, and found out I was pretty good at it. Coming to Illinois as a walk-on, I was looking for any way I could get onto the field. And it's worked out very well for me, Kenny (Kyle) and Jason.

Palm Beach: How did you get your nickname "SKEET"?
Frank Lenti: Well, Juice (Mitchell), that's because that's my cousin Juice Mitchell's nickname, also.

Chris Henderson, Peoria: What did you do over the summer? Do you guys still workout every day? Did you get a job at all?
Frank Lenti: We lift and run four times a week, and do 7-on-7 three times a week during the summer. Also, most guys take summer classes, and most guys get jobs or internships. I worked as an intern in the UI Sports Information Office.

Your Mom: Who is your biggest fan?
Frank Lenti: Of course it's you, Mom. Love you.
Moderator: Thanks to all of you who submitted questions. We'll have another chat with one of Frank's teammates right here next Wednesday, so log in!
