Nagle Earns All-Big Ten Honors

May 3, 2007

Champaign, Ill. - Illinois senior Patrick Nagle (Pacifica, Calif.) has been named second-team All-Big Ten, as chosen by the conference coaches. Nagle led the Illini in stroke average for his third consecutive year this season with a 73.04 average. He was Illinois' top finisher five times in nine tournament appearances. Nagle recorded five top-10 finishes on the season - three of which were in the top five - highlighted by a career-high tying runner-up performance at the Louisiana Classics where he finished 8-under par to earn Big Ten Golfer of the Week honors. Nagle also tied his career-low tournament score with a 9-under-par 207 at the Fossum Invitational to tie the fifth best 54-hole score in school history. He carded six rounds below par on the season, led by a 5-under-par 67 during the first round of the Fossum Invite that equaled the lowest round by an Illini golfer on the year.

Nagle ranks as one of the top golfers in the history of the Illinois program. He owns the second best career stroke average in school history at 73.16, just one one-hundredth of a point shy of the record of 73.15 set from 1985-89 by current PGA Tour pro Steve Stricker. Nagle was an All-American and Big Ten Freshman of the year in 2003 and has now earned All-Big Ten honors all four years of his career, joining Stricker as the only two UI golfers to ever achieve that feat.

In addition to Nagle's All-Big Ten recognition, fellow senior Kyle Hosick (Carmi, Ill.) was Illinois' selection as a Big Ten Men's Golf Sportsmanship honoree.
