CHAMPAIGN, Ill.-- Illinois sophomore guard Lori Bjork (Johnston, Iowa/H.S.) has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America third team. Bjork is one of only 15 players honored from around the country and one of only two sophomores honored, joining Tennessee's Candace Parker.

Bjork, who has a 3.94 grade-point average in political science, is just the third Illinois women's basketball player to be an Academic All-American and the first in 25 years, joining Lisa Robinson (1981, '82) and Liz Brauer (1980, '81).

Bjork was named to the All-District team two weeks ago. The five finalists from each of the eight districts then are placed on the Academic All-America ballot. Members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America committee vote on the final team.

This has been a week of hardware for Bjork, earning Second Team All-Big Ten honors Tuesday. She broke Illinois' decade old record for single-season three-pointers with 79 and has made a three-pointer in 35 straight games, the third-best active streak in the nation. The co-captain leads the Big Ten and ranks eighth in the nation in three-pointers per game, and leads the Illini in scoring (14.8), minutes (35.0), three-pointers (79) and free throw percentage (.829).
