CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -
Senior midfielder Kara Gostisha was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team, as announced by the conference office on Monday. Gostisha tallied one goal and notched the game-winning penalty kick in the Illini's opening-round victory over Minnesota.
Gostisha, who has started 17 games for the Illini this season, was a nemesis to the Gophers in the midfield, winning balls in the air throughout the game. She scored the game's first goal in the 35th minute after junior forward Jessica Levitt slotted a pass from the right side to the top of the box, where Gostisha hammered in the first goal of the game.
The West Chester, Ohio, native later sealed Illinois' victory with the game-winning PK, as the Illini topped the Gophers, 4-3, in a PK shootout to advance to the semifinal against Purdue. After switching from the back line to midfield earlier this season, Gostisha has produced three goals and one assist.
Gostisha and the Illini now await the announcement of the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship bracket. The selection show will air on Monday at 7 p.m. on ESPNews, with the bracket available on NCAAsports.com immediately following the show.
