TULSA, Okla. -
After a solid start for seniors Brandon Davis and Ryan Rowe at the 2007 Polo Ralph Lauren/ITA All-American Championships, the Illini duo suffered a second-round upset at the hands of TCU's No. 22-ranked Kriegler Bring and Cosmin Cotet, 8-5, in the second round of the doubles main draw.
"We had high expectations for this weekend and this tournament," associate head coach George Husack said. "Obviously, going out in the second round is not what we wanted. Going from here, we will head home and continue to work hard and improve so that we can turn this into a positive for our next tournament."
The Illini duo turned in a 1-1 record for the 2007 edition of the All-American Championships, as they took down the 16th-ranked Wake Forest tandem of Mariusz Adamski and Cory Parr, 9-8(4), in the first round before today's setback.
In other Illinois action, the Fighting Illini opened play at the Nick Bollettieri Invite in Bradenton, Fla., Oct. 5. Freshmen Connor Roth and Abe Souza are representing the Illini at the tournament, with both scheduled to play five singles and two doubles matches over the course of the three-day tournament.
A full recap of the event will be available at fightingillini.com at the end of the tournament.
