Urbana, Ill. -
Angelena Mexicano did it again on Friday night.
The junior connected on her second decisive home run in as many games and
her third home run in three contests while Illinois starter Vicky Brown
pitched around a two-out double in the first inning of a 3-0 Illinois win
over Parkland College at Eichelberger Field.
Parkland's Aimee Houchens doubled with two outs in the first to put the
Cobras first runner in scoring position but Brown immediately retired Megan
Riggs on a fly out to end the inning.
Shanna Diller singled to start the first for the Illini and Molly Lawhead
reached on an error before Mexicano stepped to the plate and connected on
her third home run in two games dating back to last weekend's Chicagoland
Classic when she hit the decisive home run in a 2-0 shutout against Loyola.
The Illini did not allow another Cobra runner to advance as far as second
base until Alyssa Bussmann sped to second base on a bad throw to first by
Mexicano at shortstop. Megan Riggs took first when Diller made another bad
throw to first from third. Both runners were erased, however, when Ashley
Wright induced a double-play and struck out Erin Galloway to end the game.
