Urbana, Ill. -
Visiting Kankakee Community College kept Sunday's game close early but Illinois scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning and added three more in the sixth to help decide a 7-1 exhibition victory on Sunday at Eichelberger Field.
Freshman pitcher Ashley Wright helped her own cause early with a sacrifice-fly in the bottom of the first to score Molly Lawhead for a 1-0 Illini lead. Wright then dodged a leadoff walk in the second inning, and the Orange and Blue's Angelena Mexicano knocked in another run on an RBI-triple for a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, the home team capitalized on a leadoff walk and scored twice for a 4-1 advantage. Wright recorded the last of her five strikeouts as part of 1-2-3 sixth inning and her teammates provided three more runs of support in the bottom frame, highlighted by Kisten Martin's two-run double.
