Aug. 21, 2006

Champaign, Ill. -

UPDATE: After carding a 75 during the first round of stroke play, Nagle withdrew from competition at the U.S. Amatuer due to his hand injury.

The 2006 U.S. Amateur begins today at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn. Illini senior Patrick Nagle (Pacifica, Calif./Junipero Serra H.S.) will be in action, fresh off his victory earlier this month at the Pacific Coast Amateur at the Olympic Club in San Francisco. Nagle earned an automatic berth in this year's amateur after qualifying for the U.S. Open in June.

The U.S. Amateur format begins with two qualifying rounds of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday. Both Hazeltine National G.C. (7,473 yards/par 72) and the Chaska Town Course (6,753 yards/par 71) will be used during stroke play. The 64 players with the lowest qualifying scores will then move on to match play, which starts Wednesday and concludes Sunday.

Nagle will play the Hazeltine National course today and the Chaska Town course on Tuesday. Nagle tees off today at 12:55 p.m. Central Time. Tee times have not yet been released for tomorrow.
