Illini Wrestlers Take Six to Semifinals

After one full session of competition, Illinois has six wrestlers still alive in the championship bracket heading to the semifinals and the remaining four will begin their quest to the placewinner stand with the consolations tonight. Kyle Ott (125), Mark Jayne (133), Alex Tirapelle (157), Pete Friedl (174), Brian Glynn (184) and Tyrone Byrd (197) will compete tonight for a chance to head to the Big Ten finals and have automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships. Through the quarterfinal round, the Illini have 56.5 team points, good enough for first. Michigan, which also has six semifinalists, has scored 54 points for third. Minnesota is currently in second with five semifinalists.
