Illini Finish Sixth at Springlake Intercollegiate

Sebring, Fla. - Illinois entered the final round of the Springlake Intercollegiate in first place, but a team score of 323 today dropped the Illini five places in the standings as the Orange and Blue finished sixth with a 36-hole total of 632. The Springlake Intercollegiate was hosted by Northern Illinois University at the par 72, 5,850-yard Springlake Golf Resort in Sebring, Fla. Highpoint won the 20-team event with a score of 616, defeating runner-up Creighton by seven strokes (623).
Leading the way for the Illini was freshman Casey Burden, who recorded a career-best finish in tying for sixth place individually. Burden shot rounds of 75 and 78 to notch her first career Top-10 finish, ending the tournament at 9-over par (153).
Burden was the lone Illini player to shoot in the 70s during today's final round. Illinois also counted an 80 from Lyndsey Milligan, an 82 from Kristine Cook and an 83 from Seul Ki Park. Junior Megan Godfrey, who was in a three-way tie atop the leaderboard at 2-over par entering today, shot an 85 to tie for 30th place at 159.
Cook tied for 46th at 161, Milligan tied for 55th with a 163, and Park Creighton's Leigh Sutton captured medalist honors in the 110-player field with a winning score of 2-over par (146).
Next up for the Illini is the Lady Herd/El Diablo Intercollegiate in Citrus Springs, Fla. on March 21-22.
