Citrus Springs, Fla. - Illinois climbed three places in the team standings today, moving up from ninth place to finish sixth at the 54-hole Lady Herd/El Diablo Intercollegiate, hosted by Marshall University at the par 72, 5,942-yard El Diablo Golf and Country Club in Citrus Springs, Fla. Illinois wrapped up its second round this morning, which was suspended yesterday due to thunderstorms, and shot a score of 316. The Illini then added its lowest round of the tournament, a 313 in this afternoon's final round, to finish in sixth with a 54-hole total of 955 strokes.
Coastal Carolina won the 17-team event with a score of 908, running away with the title by 38 strokes over runner-up Marshall (946).
The Illini had two golfers finish in the top-20 out of the 100-player field. Senior Lyndsey Milligan led the Illini, tying for 13th place with a score of 235. She shot rounds of 81-76-78, with her 4-over par 76 in round two ranking as the lowest score by a UI golfer during the tournament. Freshman Seul Ki Park was Illinois' second finisher, tying for 18th place overall with a score of 238. After an 82 in round one, Park battled back with consecutive rounds of 78 in two and three.
Katy Heher of Coastal Carolina was medalist with a winning score of 6-over par 222.
The Illini are back in action next weekend, traveling to Bloomington, Ind. for the Indiana Invitational on April 2-3.
