Karniski Garners Ninth Honor

Dec. 23, 2005

Senior defender Christen Karniski was named a second-team All-American by Soccer Buzz Friday. It is Karniski's ninth award this postseason and her second by Soccer Buzz. Her recognition on the second team is the second-highest honor from Soccer Buzz in Illinois program history, bested only by Leisha Alcia's first-team mention in 2003.

The honor comes on the heels of Karniski's recognition as a Soccer Buzz All-Great Lakes region first-teamer and a first-team NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-American earlier this week. The Iowa City, Iowa, native was also named the Big Ten co-Defensive Player of the Year, to the NSCAA/adidas All-America second team, the NSCAA/adidas first team All-Great Lakes Region, the All-Big Ten first team, the NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-North Region first team and the CoSIDA ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District first team.

All 308 Division I women's soccer programs are eligible for the Soccer Buzz awards, which are decided by a vote open to all Division I head coaches and Soccer Buzz staff. Complete listings of the four All-America teams can be found at www.soccerbuzz.com.
