After two weeks of intense practice, the Illini took the court at the Assembly Hall on Friday night for the annual Orange & Blue Scrimmage. The squad split up into two teams of six and competed in a scrimmage that consisted of four, 8-minute quarters, with the blue team outlasting the orange for a 58-55 victory. Following the scrimmage, the Illini players and coaches participated in a 45-minute autograph session.
The blue team consisted of seniors James Augustine and Dee Brown, juniors Marcus Arnold and Rich McBride, and freshmen Calvin Brock and Jamar Smith. The orange team was made of junior Warren Carter, sophomores Brian Randle, Shaun Pruitt and Trent Meacham, and freshmen Chester Frazier and C.J. Jackson.
Augustine was one of five players in double figures, scoring a game-high 14 points to lead the blue team. He accounted for a double-double, also collecting a game-high 11 rebounds. Brown was also in double figures for the blue squad, finishing with 13 pionts and a game-high seven assists. Three of Brown's four field goals on the night came from 3-point land.
McBride, Brock and Smith added nine points apiece for the victorious blue squad, while Arnold rounded out the lineup with four points and seven boards.
Meacham was high-point man for the orange team with 12 points, while forwards Carter and Jackson added 10 each. Pruitt nearly had a double-double, tallying nine points and a team-high eight rebounds. Randle, meanwhile, finished with eight points, seven boards, four assists and two blocks, and Frazier had six points, six rebounds and five assists.
Both teams shot 44 percent for the game, but the orange held a commanding lead on the glass, outrebounding the blue 39-26.
Illinois returns to the court on Thursday night (Nov. 3), hosting Illinois Wesleyan in an exhibition game. Tip-off is 7 p.m. at the Assembly Hall.
