Illinois' women's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker to Bradley tonight at the Assembly Hall, 70-67, in front of 1,345 fans. The loss leaves the Illini with a 4-2 record while the Braves improve to 5-2.
Erin Wigley scored 19 points and Tiffanie Guthrie poured in 18 for the Illini, who had two chances in the final ten seconds to tie the score, but they could not get a three-pointer to fall.
Angelina Williams had her three-point attempt go around and out and after the rebound was fought for, the result was a jump ball and the Illini held possession and had a final attempt to tie. With two seconds remaining, Jere Issenmann inbounded the ball to Guthrie three feet behind the arc and her shot attempt fell a foot short.
The Illini pounded the Braves on the boards, out-rebounding them 45-23, including 22-5 on the offensive glass, but Bradley shot 50 percent for the game, including 57 percent in the first half.
Freshman Danyel Crutcher had another strong performance, scoring 10 points and grabbing six rebounds, making her one of four Illini with at least six rebounds.
Illinois returns to the court this Saturday when the Illini play host to Pacific at the United Center in Chicago. Tip-off is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
