In the first dual of the night, Illinois won nine of 10 bouts in the 43-3 thrashing of McKendree College. At 133 pounds, No. 4 Mark Jayne (Jr., Elyria, Ohio) scored a takedown and nearfall points in the first period and held on for the 7-2 decision. In his only match of the night, junior Anton Dietzen (Elmhurst, Ill.) scored a 9-2 decision over David Elliott with four takedowns and over four minutes of riding time. At 157, top-ranked Alex Tirapelle (So., Clovis, Calif.) was leading Clay Wiere 12-0 before getting the pin call at the 6:21 mark of the match to give the All-American his fifth fall of the season and the team an 18-3 lead.

Jayne improved from his decision in the first match to pin Steve Chico in 1:19 to give Illinois an 11-0 lead after the 133-pound match. At 141 pounds, Martin used the entire seven minutes to get a technical fall win over Alec Lininger, 20-3. He got six takedowns and accumulated six points off near falls. At 149, sophomore Cal Ferry (Machesney, Ill.) scored two takedowns to win a 7-0 decision over Joe Rujawitz to give the Illini a 19-0 lead.

Tirapelle worked much faster in his second match as he immediately got the takedown and had eight near fall points before the match was called for a fall at 2:02 at 157 pounds. With the fall, he remained undefeated with 20 wins and took the team lead with six pins. The next match of the night was the collegiate debut for highly touted 165-pound redshirt freshman Donny Reynolds (Frankfort, Ill.) who did not disappoint with a pin in 2:02 over Matt Oliva. The Illini got a third-straight pin this time in 1:09 by 174-pounder Friedl over Pat Healy, his second of the evening. Glynn moved into the Illinois career win list at No. 25 as he got his 67th victory of his career in a 12-2 major decision win over Branden Lorek at 184 pounds. He had a big second period, which included two takedowns and back points to remain the squad leader with 21 wins on the season.
