The Illini lost in four games to No. 23 Wisconsin tonight by the score of 30-28, 27-30, 22-30, 23-30. With the loss, the Illini fall to 10-2 and 1-1 in the conference on the season while Wisconsin improved to 10-3 and 2-0 in Big Ten play.
Illinois enjoyed a great start with Lisa Argabright getting 9 of her team-high 17 kills in the first game. The Orange and Blue hit .316 in game one, but would end up being the only game of the night in which the Illini would hit .300 or better.
The Illini couldn't get much going after game one as Wisconsin took control with accurate hitting led by Jill Odenthal who led the Badgers with 22 kills on 42 attempts, which led to a hitting percentage of .357. Meanwhile, Jill Maier led all players with 19 digs and helped the badgers out dig the Illini 84-to-59.
Illinois did however win the battle of the blocks by a margin of 14-to-5. Junior libero Lauren Harks led the Illini with 12 digs.
"We were in this match, I think we learned a lot again from this match tonight and know that we need to stay at the .500 mark on these road swings like we did this week," Head Coach Don Hardin said. "I really like this group, we just need to continue playing how we have up to this point and make the proper adjustments."
The Illini are next in action next Friday, Oct. 3 when it travels to Iowa City to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes.
