UI senior Jennifer McGaffigan won her opening-round match today in the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships at Pacific Palisades, Calif. McGaffigan played a grueling match against the No. 4 seed Chloe Carlotti of Fresno State. With her win today, McGaffigan will advance to the second round which will be played tomorrow afternoon against Erin Burdette of Stanford.
"It just came down to last person standing; the second set alone took two hours," said Assistant Coach JoAnne Russell. "I just kept telling her to be aggressive, and the last couple points of the tie-breaker she was, and she got the win. It was just awesome."
