The Vanderbilt Commodores shut out the Illinois women's tennis team today, 7-0 in Nashville, TN. The loss drops the No. 34 Illini to 5-3 on the season, while the No. 2 Commodores improved to 14-1.
Illinois was swept in doubles competition, losing 8-6, 8-0 and 8-4 at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 respectively. In singles action, the Orange and Blue were competitive, but could not pull out a match. UI sophomore Tiffany Eklov and freshman Kate Boomershine pushed their matches to three sets before being upended in the last set.
This was Illinois' last tune up before the Big Ten dual-match season begins, next weekend. The Illini host Michigan State on Saturday and face Michigan on Sunday at the Atkins Tennis Center.
