Final Stats
The University of Illinois women's soccer team continued its road woes on Friday with a 4-0 loss at #13 Penn State. The Illini fall to 6-7-0 overall, 2-4 in the Big Ten, and 1-6 on the road with the loss. Meanwhile, the Nittany Lions, who have now won 17 straight at home, improve to 10-2-1 overall and 5-1-0 in conference play.
Junior Heidi Drummond put Penn State up early with a rebound goal at the 11:52 mark and the Nittany Lions would never look back. Freshman Tiffany Weimer gave the Lions a 2-0 lead in the 31st minute when she connected on a shot off her own rebound. Drummond would later add two more goals in the second half to earn the second hat trick of her career and set the final at 4-0. Drummond's second goal of the evening occurred on a breakaway down the left side and her third was off the rebound of a missed penalty kick.
The Illini were able to fire only four shots, a season low, on the wet and rainy night, while the Nittany Lions managed 19. Illinois goalkeeper Leisha Alcia collected six saves, but tied a career high by allowing the four goals. Penn State keeper Amanda Brown had three saves and notched her sixth shutout of the season.
Up Next: On Sunday, October 13, the Illini travel to Ohio State to take on the Buckeyes in Big Ten action. Then, next weekend, Illinois returns home to face #20 Purdue on Friday, Oct. 18, and Indiana on Sunday, Oct. 20.
