EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The Fighting Illini women's soccer team stepped away from Big Ten Conference action to take on Evansville today. In front of the home crowd, the Purple Aces held the Illini scoreless in a 2-0 decision. Illinois is now 4-4 this season, 2-1 in the Big Ten.
"We're obviously disappointed with the outcome of both games this weekend," head coach Tricia Taliaferro said. "We have some things to focus on this week in practice to get ready for Northwestern and Wisconsin next weekend. There's room for improvement and we need to work on rebuilding and keeping a positive attitude."
Once again, the Illini created opportunities on the offensive side of the ball, outshooting the Aces by a13-6 margin. Illinois also held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior defender Hiedi Holtzman stressed the continued aggressiveness on both sides of the ball saying: "We created opportunities all over the field. Unfortunately we could not capitalize. In practice we will work on getting the ball into the back of the net.
"The defense played well. They just finished on two opportunities," she added.
The Illini remain on the road next weekend to visit Northwestern on Friday and Wisconsin on Sunday.
