CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The Fighting Illini women's soccer team played another close contest at the Illini Soccer and Track Stadium tonight. After a scoreless first half, both teams came out firing in the second half.

Marquette scored the first goal of the contest at the 48:37 mark. The Golden Eagles held a 1-0 advantage until the 84th minute of the contest. After Marquette scored at 84:09, the Illini struck back 1:06 later when Hollie Schurr found the back of the net on an unassisted 15 footer from the left side. It only took six seconds for the Golden Eagles to score the final goal of the night to down the Illini by a 3-1 margin.

"We created a lot of chances and played with a lot of heart," head coach Tricia Taliaferro said. "Marquette was a very good team, and they created chances too. I was very pleased with the effort of our offense. Overall I thought we played well. Going into the Big Ten season, we are playing our best soccer.."

The Illini battled on the offensive side of the ball firing 19 shots on goal, 13 in the second half. In all they outshot the Golden Eagles 36-19. Schurr was a playmaker, running the sideline to break away from the Golden Eagle defense. She took five shot on goal en route to knocking in her first goal of the season.

The Illini remain at home to open the Big Ten portion of the schedule this weekend. Illinois and Michigan will battle on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Illini Soccer and Track Stadium. Michigan State visits Champaign for a 2 p.m. contest on Sunday.
