Fairfax, Va. - The Illini volleyball team cruised past George Washington 3-0 this morning in tournament action at the George Mason Patriot Invitational. Illinois defeated the Colonials in straight games by the score of 30-17, 30-15, 30-28.

Illinois continued its hot hitting, posting an attack percentage of better than .400 for the match. The Illini enjoyed a large advantage on offense, out-hitting George Washington .416-to-.127. Leading the way was the brilliant play of sophomore outside hitter Melissa Vandrey. Vandrey had a season-high 16 kills and hit .500 for the match. Senior middle blocker Lydia Gard, Illinois' most consistent player in the tournament through three matches, continued her steady play with ten kills and a hitting percentage of .615.

The Illini out-dug George Washington 38-23, led by a match-high nine digs from freshman defensive specialist Kathleen Bazzetta. Illinois also served up five aces as a team, led by three from senior outside hitter Shadia Haddad. In addition to her efficient serving, Haddad also registered nine kills.

Freshman middle blocker Lisa Argabright added nine kills and four blocks, while hitting .375.

The Illini, now 3-0 on the season, will play William & Mary at 4 p.m. central time for the tournament championship.
