EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The Illini dropped four strokes in the final round of the Fossum Invitational to move up from 14th to finish 11th. After opening the tournament with two rounds of 298, Illinois shot a team total of 294 in the final round to finish the tournament with an 890. Northwestern shot a tournament total of 851 at the 71-par, 6,764-yard Forest Akers West course to win the 15-team event.
Geoff Lound continued to lead the Illini. He shot a 73 in the final round to finish the tournament with a 2-over par 215 to tie for seventh place. Ryan Tendall dropped several strokes in the final round shooting a 1-under par 70 to move up in the standings. He tied for 38th with a 223. Tim Riley and Ryan Moore each finished the tournament with totals of 226 to tie for 50th place. Tony Peressini finished 76th with a 241.
The Illini return home next weekend to host the Big Ten Men's Golf Championship. The first round tees off at 12:30 p.m. Friday (May 4) at Stone Creek Golf Club in Urbana. The second 36 holes will begin at 7:30 Saturday morning followed by the final round at 7:30 a.m. Sunday.
