LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Illini completed their first tournament of the spring season today at the 72-par, 7,065-yard Grasslands Golf and Country Club in Lakeland, Fla. Illinois dropped to 16th after the final day of the 18-team tournament. Head Coach Mike Small's squad opened the tournament with 324. They followed that up with rounds of 331 and 329. The team total of 984 put the Illini in 16th place. Florida Southern won the competition with a tournament team total of 903.
Sophomore Geoff Lound led the Illini squad. He shot a 54-hole total of 245 (81-81-83) to tie for 62nd place. Freshman Tony Peressini shot 83 strokes in both of the final rounds. Combined with his 81 on the first 18 holes, Peressini tied for 68th with a tournament total of 247. Tim Riley and Ryan Tendall each finished with 249 strokes. They tied with each other for 73rd place. Sophomore Evan Olson was one stroke behind with a 250. He tied for 76th.
The Illini take next week off before returning to Florida for the El Diablo Intercollegiate March 17-18.
