CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The No. 4 University of Illinois men's gymnastics team scored their top team score of the season to defeat No. 8 Iowa, 216.150-212.250, Saturday night at Huff Hall. The Illini improve to 16-3 overall, 7-3 in the Conference.
Three Illini seniors shined in their final meet at Huff Hall. Greg Cook scored a season-high 9.15 on high bar to tie for first. Leo Oka and Linh Hoang tied for top honors on rings with 9.45. Oka also won the all-around with his season-high 54.35 while taking second on vault with a 9.25. Hoang finished second on floor by scoring a 9.15. The future looks bright for the Illini with junior Sean-Paul Crawford winning floor for the fourth consecutive meet, scoring a 9.35.
"We finally put a meet together that we hit our sets and didn't count any falls," said head coach Yoshi Hayasaki. "We deserved a high score that would advance us to the next level. This has been our best competition, no question."
The Illini head back to the West Coach for a regular season finale at the California-Santa Barbara Invitational March 10. The meet is set for 9:30 CT.
