CITRUS SPRINGS, Fla. -- Rain forced the cancellation of the third and final round of the El Diablo Intercollegiate today. Heavy rains left much of the 72-par, 6,777-yard El Diablo Golf and Country Club course unplayable, so the results after day one stood as the final totals. The Illini opened the tournament with a 299. They followed that up with their best round of the season, a 286, to finish fourth with a total of 585 strokes. Toledo won the competition with a two-round total of 579. The Illini came out on top of Big Ten opponents Penn State (T6th, 590), Indiana (12th, 599), Wisconsin (T14th, 602) and Michigan (20th, 606).
Geoff Lound had a solid tournament to lead the Illini. The sophomore shot a 1-under par 71 in the opening round followed by an even-par 72 on the second 18 to tie for fifth place with a 1-under 143. Freshman Ryan Moore also opened the tournament on a strong note. For the first time in his Illinois career, Moore shot a 2-under par 70. After a 75 in the later round, Moore tied for 13th with a 145. Senior Tim Riley had a 1-under 71 in the second round. He tied for 32nd with a 148. Freshman Ryan Tendall tied for 40th with a two-round total of 149. Sophomore Evan Olson tied for 94th with a 156.
The Illini travel to Pottsboro, Texas for the Dr Pepper Intercollegiate March 24-25.
