CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/ Adidas All-America committee named senior midfielder Colleen Joyce and freshman forward Tara Hurless to the Great Lakes Region second team.
"Both of them made a huge impact for us this season," head coach Tricia Taliaferro said. "They stepped up when we needed somebody to and knocked in the big game-winning goals. They were difference makers and it's a compliment to them and their hard work and dedication that they were recognized by the other coaches. They both deserve it."
Joyce led the Illini offense with 11 goals and three assists for 25 points. She also scored several key goals including both goals against Michigan in the regular season contest. Joyce's goal on a penalty kick in overtime gave the Illini their first ever victory over the Wolverines.
Hurless finished just behind Joyce offensively, recording 23 points on 10 goals and three assists. She also scored several key goals including netting a hat-trick to lead Illinois past Iowa, 4-1, in the Big Ten Tournament opener and the game winner in overtime to send the Illini past Michigan, 2-1, for their first ever trip to the Big Ten Tournament championship contest.
